DOE Invests $350 Million to Reduce Methane Emissions

The department will fund the technical assistance necessary to monitor methane and prevent leaks.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has made $350 million available to oil and gas well owners, providing funding for additional ways to monitor and prevent methane leaks on site. The funding was provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and is distributed jointly by the Energy Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the department’s National Energy Technology Laboratory.

“Methane is a much more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, so it’s crucial that we work closely with states and industry to develop solutions that will cut emissions at their source,” said Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm. The deadline to apply for this grant funding is September 30.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Energy Department officials as they review and award grants for the reduction of methane emissions.
  • For Secretary Granholm to seek God’s wisdom as she heads her department.
  • That the president and his administration would look to the Lord for guidance regarding the environment and conservation.
